10 days of call per month with only one weekend of call monthly

Community/Facility info: 2005, 2007 and 2011 recipient of Thomson-Reuters Top 100 Hospital designation. 100 bed Joint Commission-accredited Acute Care Facility that has served the heart of South Alabama since 1966. Offering a wide range of diagnostic, therapeutic, emergency and surgical services, the hospital was pleased to take part in the grand opening of the Comprehensive Cancer Center. Recent improvements include the addition of an 8,000-square-foot Level Three Trauma ER, renovation of the surgical suites, a fixed-base MRI expansion and the addition of a GE 1.5 Tesla MRI with Vascular Console. The hospital also features a fully equipped eight-bed ICU and a 12-bed Inpatient Rehab Unit completed in April 2004. A new Birthing Center has five labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum (LDRP) suites and a C-section suite. South Alabama offers a multitude of recreational opportunities. The 83,000-acre Conecuh National Forest that attracts visitors who want to swim, hike, camp, picnic and fish. Blue Lake and Open Pond are both located in the National Forest, which is known for its tall trees, crystal clear spring-fed lakes and clean fresh air. The 2,700-acre Gantt Lake and the 700-acre Point A Lake, offer fishing, boating and water sports. Nearby Point A Park has camping and picnicking facilities. There are six tennis courts and 13 ball fields at the Complex. Plans are underway to develop an additional soccer complex with hopes it will be ready for the 2013 season. The newest addition to Parks and Recreation will be the development of The Miracle League Field at the newly renovated Johnson Park. Miracle League program provides an opportunity for children with mental and/or physical challenges to play baseball. With a specially designed rubber turf field, The Miracle League makes dreams come true for children with special needs.
